Survival Guide
Project DayZ is harsh by design. Food and water are scarce, medicine is deeper, and infected are a real threat.
Dying early is expected — learning the loop is the real progression.
Fresh Spawn Start (recommended)
Pick: Wrench
Useful long-term — repairs, wells, farming setups, and survival utility.
Pick: Rags
Bleeding control is non-negotiable early.
Pick: Glass Shard
Combine shard + rags to craft a knife immediately.
Food & Water are scarce
Plan routes
Wandering gets you killed. Move with a purpose.
Hunting + farming win
Reliable food comes from effort, not luck.
Skills amplify hunting
In this economy, skills make hunting worth it long-term.
Combat: fight smarter, not more
Terje medicine adds more injuries and consequences. Even infected hits can inflict bruises.
Choose fights carefully — a “win” that leaves you injured is still a loss on a long run.
Use cars / high ground
Safest way to clear groups of infected.
Doors can fail
Infected can break doors — don’t trap yourself inside.
Buildings aren’t always clear
Some unfortunate souls died inside houses — and the dead still linger.
Listen before you enter. Clear corners. Never assume a building is safe just because it looks quiet.
Pause & listen
Sound often reveals what visuals don’t.
Always have an exit
Know your second door/window before committing.
Fruit trees: shake for a chance
No fruit on the ground doesn’t mean the tree is empty. Shaking the tree still gives a chance.
Backpacks: quick equip
To use backpacks, the bag must be in your hands. Press B to quickly put the bag into your hands.
